All About Apple: iPhone 16, Apple Intelligence, AirPods 4, iOS 18 and Watch 10

Apple introduced its iPhone 16 line, including four variants, at its "Glowtime" event. The new smartphones, specifically designed for Apple Intelligence AI platform, feature powerful chips and a dedicated camera button. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus sport Apple's 3-nanometer A18 chip and telephoto option, while the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have larger displays, an A18 Pro chip, and 5x optical zoom. However, Apple Intelligence isn't launching immediately with the new iPhones, which could potentially affect sales.

Apple unveiled its redesigned AirPods 4, introducing "AirPods 4 with Active Noise Canceling" for an extra $50. The new model, promised to be more comfortable, is equipped with the H2 chip, wireless charging, a built-in speaker for Find My functionality, and a USB-C base case offering 30 hours on a charge. Pre-orders started September 20, with the base model priced at $129 and the ANC model priced at $179.

Apple's iOS 18 will launch on September 16th with enhanced customization features for the homescreen and lockscreen. The update includes reorganized apps, widgets, a redesigned Control Center, a new password management app, satellite messaging support, new text effects, a revamped Photos app, and additional Mail app organizational features. However, the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro's Apple Intelligence features will not be included.

Apple announced that its new Apple Intelligence suite, debuting on iOS 18.1, will launch in beta from October, initially exclusive to US English users. Further language support, including Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish, will roll out by 2025. Apple Intelligence, offering features such as notification summaries and image editing, is free for users with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 and higher, and M1-or-later Mac or iPad models.

Apple has unveiled the Apple Watch Series 10, sporting a thinner, more refreshed design with larger screens. It offers a built-in speaker for audio playback, fast charging, and a new watch face that interacts with ambient light. This Series is also water resistant up to 20ft deep and can detect sleep apnea. A Jet Black variant and polished titanium version were announced for pre-order starting at $399. The launch is set for September 20.

Atomico, an investment firm founded by Skype co-founder Niklas Zennström, has announced two new funds worth $1.24 billion to support European tech startups at different growth stages. This comes as a major uplift for the European tech industry which witnessed a severe decrease in startup funding and valuations in 2023. The news follows speculation around possible IPOs of Atomico's key investees, Stripe and Klarna.

Shares of the IT giant Oracle rose 5.9% in extended trading following stronger-than-expected Q1 results and the announcement of new partnerships with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. The company reported a 6.9% increase in revenue, totaling $13.31 billion, and a profit of $1.39 per share. Particularly noteworthy was a massive 53% increase in total remaining performance obligations, now standing at $99 billion.
