TikTok Fights to Regain Trust in Washington with Increased Lobbying, Ads, and Policy Changes
TikTok's reputation in Washington has been declining due to concerns about China and the adverse effects of social media on children. In response, the company has vastly increased lobbying spending, placed ads emphasizing its contribution to American businesses, hired former lawmakers, and implemented policy changes aimed at data privacy and misinformation.
Despite competitors' efforts to paint it as a threat to children, TikTok is pushing the message that it is ahead of industry peers in protecting children online.
Ads have been targeted towards Washington, showing commitment to data privacy, while influencers are used to spread the message on Capitol Hill. The company is attempting to build relationships with policymakers more quickly than previous tech giants.
Microsoft Launches Loop, Its Notion Competitor in Public Preview
Microsoft has launched its Notion competitor, Loop, in public preview. It is available to Microsoft Account and Azure Active Directory users, and a companion app for iOS and Android will be arriving soon.
Loop consists of three main elements β Components, Pages, and Workspaces β that allow teams to collaborate in real-time across Microsoft 365 apps and services.
It supports progress tracking tools for projects, two-way sync with services such as Trello, JavaScript widgets allowing collaboration while in the flow of work, flexible canvases for organizing components, and shared platforms where users can see everything relevant to their projects.
Microsoft is building its Copilot system into Loop, which will suggest options to create a brainstorm or blueprint.
Notion has recently introduced an AI-powered system for analyzing meeting notes which Loop will have to compete with.

EU, UK Investigate Potential Impact of Broadcom-VMware Deal on Competition
U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is concerned about the possible impact of the $61 billion Broadcom-VMware deal on U.K businesses.
CMA is worried that the deal could reduce competition in server hardware components and lead to higher prices for customers.
The CMA has given Broadcom five days to respond to its concerns, failing which it may pass on the case for Phase 2 investigation.
The EU has also expressed similar concerns over the deal's potential impact on competition and announced an investigation into it in December 2020.
Broadcom expects to close the deal this year, working with authorities to address their concerns regarding competition.
